Sotantar Simrat Singh - Sun Gong

SOTANTAR SIMRAT SINGH - SUN GONG
self-released
2004

here's a lovely sikh/kundalini new age styled GONG BATH for your thursday and continuing pleasure.
enjoy!

"A Gong Bath is like a very deep and lasting massage, by tuning the physical body and soul to the greatest possible resonance.
Usually laying down on your back in savasana position, receiving the sound energy of the gong as it is being played moving through the nervous system opening, clearing and recharging the whole mind, body and spirit. Triggering a meditation, contemplation state in which we have the opportunity to relinquish control of the mind. Negativity and chaos are suspended, irregularity and resistance are cleared, and the whole being is reset to a state of synchrony and alignment."

Ashwin Batish - Om Shanti Meditation

ASHWIN BATISH - OM SHANTI MEDITATION
1985
Batish Records

Mr. Electric Sitar Power Man, Ashwin Batish, offers up some nice modal drippings on the swarmandal (indian harp). two raga spaces for sunrise and sunset. nice mellow way to start and end your day. this is kind of a crossover post and time for me to mention my other new blog - RAGA VIBRATIONS. enjoy!

"While listening to the tape, take deep breaths and chant Om. You should feel your voice vibrating in your chest when you utter Om. This will have a very relaxing effect on your body and mind. Chanting Om in a slow deliberate manner will also help you inhale and exhale easily and evenly hence acting as a breathing exercise which in the long run will produce a marked improvement on your mental and physical well being."

Sri Chinmoy - Meditation Sky

SRI CHINMOY - MEDITATION SKY
aum publications
1976

ok, its about time we started dipping into the vast waters of the new age/spiritual guru/cult leader scene here. kicking things off with an LP by Sri Chinmoy (who was famously worshipped by super guitarists John McLaughlin & Carlos Santana and more) there are 2 side long pieces here. first side is solo esraj zones. simple and floating and calm. side two features Sri Chinmoy's singing with harmonium/organ accompaniment. his vocals get pretty dissonant (i.e.: he's a little pitchy) with the harmonium, so its like new age Morton Feldman, but its actually quite a soothing side. a really nice record. included is a full scan of the booklet with meditation instructions and copious pictures of Sri Sri blissed out with his eyes rolled back into his head and stuff. enjoy!

John Beaulieu - Calendula

JOHN BEAULIEU - CALENDULA
(a suite for pythagorean tuning forks)
1997
the relaxation company

here we have some more metal resonances. a suite of healing music by tuning fork master john beaulieu. each side explores different sets of intervals with a couple of longer pieces that open and close the tape. close your eyes and let the tones soothe your body / mind. enjoy!

“Inspired by John Cage's experience, I sat in an anechoic chamber for five hundred hours over a period of two years and listened to the sounds of my own body. I began to correlate different states of consciousness with the different sounds of my nervous system. Being a trained musician, I noticed that the high-pitched sounds of my nervous system consisted of several sounds in different intervals. Then one day I brought two tuning forks and tapped them. Immediately I observed that the sound of my nervous system came into resonance with the sound of the tuning forks. It was then I realized that people can be tuned like musical instruments!"

Joel Andrews - The Violet Flame

JOEL ANDREWS - THE VIOLET FLAME

the group, inc.

one of my favorite new age record cover artworks of all time.
enjoy!

"the devic and elemental kingdoms are at one, and work interdependently on the horizontal grid of physical manifestation. therefore the vertical process of personal individual transmutation becomes a part of the process of planetary transformation, and through the symbol of the cross, stands as an essential link in bridging the elemental, human, and angelic kingdoms. this tranmutative work, carried out from below by conscious wielders of creative fire, when couple with the transformative activities of those dispensers of cosmic force from on high, illustrates the highest quality of co-creative effort in building a new heaven and a new earth, and becomes a practical demonstration for the vision of a new age. LET LIGHT AND LOVE AND POWER RESTORE THE PLAN ON EARTH"

Jay Arrigo - Organic Synthesis

JAY ARRIGO - ORGANIC SYNTHESIS
TEA productions
197?

ive had my eye on this record for awhile. finally found a copy out in San Fran. it has one of the coolest record covers EVER.
but the music is not much to write home about. kind of sub-par acoustic piano noodlings (a la Halpern), but not a bad record either. it has some very NEW AGE liner notes that make for a good read. i scanned in the booklet from the LP too, youll find a PDF archive of that in .zip file. don't really know much about jay arrigo at all....he had some sort of thing called TEA meditation classes or something.

"Organic Synthesis is an itinerary of the landscape of the soul - imagery for the four levels of being - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual - definable, related and connected through awareness, reachable through selective awareness and the colors and shapes we create for their expression. Experience the elusive melodies of fleeting moods, the energetic, pulsating spiral towards spiritual orgasm, the subtle silken imagery of joy and bliss, the clarity and precision of pure perception."

huh?
enjoy!!!

Michel Genest - Ascension

MICHEL GENEST - ASCENSION
1986
sona gaia productions

this is pushing a little further into the 80's than i usually like to go, but i just scored this LP out in san francisco and it hit me hard. this is pure synthesizer music fantasy scapes. i see castles and crystals and fairies when i listen to this one. i mean, if i didnt tell you this was michel genest, i could release this as a limited edition cassette and put 'ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER - ASCENSION' on the spine and it would sell out in 3 minutes...im not demeaning mr. lopatin at all here. in fact, he is one my favorite dudes around and i love his music...but here at CV we like to share the music of our predecessors / true new age warriors / heard and unheard inspirations / vibes / space musicians. giving everything a chance to exist & enjoy AS IT IS!

"VISIONARY SYNTHESIZER MUSIC"

Marc Barreca - Twilight

MARC BARRECA - TWILIGHT

palace of lights

a lovely little gem from marc barreca. instrumental dream spaces from this seattle based musician.
synths, drum machines, kalimbas, electronics, guitars, bells, sax & field recordings all combine to create some lovely soundscapes here. fog and rain and darkness and sunshine and oceans...
reminding me of nuno canavarro, roedelius, nobukazu takemura, deuter's first album, etc.....
thanks to mike p. for turning me on to this one.

as promised, here's another album of joyous piano bliss by allaudin william mathieu. goes hand in hand with 'in the wind' which was posted earlier.
enjoy!

you can still order these two LPs (or cassettes) directly from mathieu's cold mountain music

"If only we could see the air it would look like music sounds. Sometimes when dark birds fly against the sky the air does become visible. Then flocks of birds are like chords, and their flight patterns bring out the harmonies of the atmosphere."

Don Slepian - The Sea of Bliss

DON SLEPIAN - THE SEA OF BLISS
1980

this cassette rip was passed along to me by a generous reader of this blog.
it is don slepian's first album of blissful waves of sound. 2 long relaxing meditative pieces perfect for a drizzly summer day.
enjoy!

"The purpose of The Sea of Bliss is to change your state of consciousness. People have often used it for meditation and massage. In a local hospital it has been used during labor and childbirth as a sonic analgesic. In the car it combats rush hour traffic stress. In New Age stores and workshops it is used for ambience, a form of aural fragrence."

please visit don slepian's website here.

David Parsons - Sounds of the Mothership

DAVID PARSONS - SOUNDS OF THE MOTHERSHIP
1980

sorry for the lack of posts around here, they usually come in WAVES i guess......
here is david parson's debut album from 1980. beautiful floating dreamy sonics with dashes of world music vibes.
a real soother....please enjoy!

(this is taken from the CD reissue, except 'awakening' which was omitted from the cd reissue, that is from the original cassette release.)

"Inspired by the ancient Vedic songs of India, Parson's music lies at the well–springs of consciousness, tempered by soothing sounds fom the physical world: the soft chirping of crickets, the calls of songbirds, and the restless sounds of the four winds. The music serves as a centering point for the mind amid the swirling vortex of the temporal plane."

Allaudin William Mathieu - In The Wind

ALLAUDIN WILLIAM MATHIEU - IN THE WIND
cold mountain music (cm 009)
1983

have you ever wished george winston's records were better? well, then give allaudin william mathieu a try. this is lovely rhythmic joyous private press piano music. quintessentially california coastal vibe music. prepared piano bits, wordless melodic singing, african polyrhythms, multitracked, double speed piano, just intonation. little splashes of lots of goodness. let this music carry you away on warm winds. ill also be posting mathieu's other nice album 'streaming the wisdom' soon...enJOY!

unity records
1979

continuing our exploration of the great unity records new age label, this is an amazing journey conjured up by steve mclinn's ojas project from oklahoma city OK. im sure he's THE pioneer of oklahoma new age music. this great LP takes us on 2 side long rides through harp, guitars, vocals, gongs, and all manner of wonderful synthesizers. its a beautiful new age trip from beginning to end, with some of the breezy joy as Deuter's 'Celebration' album. he doesnt always make all of the right moves but the spirit is there for sure, let it flow and enjoy!

"sound is the force which holds the physical octave. it is a doorway through which the consciousness might flow into new dimensions of reality."

also please visit the ojas / steve mclinn website here.
mr. mclinn recently had a fire that destroyed his entire studio along with most of his gear and recordings, so buy some stuff from his website if you can.
