Henry Wolff & Nancy Hennings - Tibetan Bells II

HENRY WOLFF & NANCY HENNINGS - TIBETAN BELLS II
pacific arts records & tapes
1979

starting with volume 2 of this all metallic resonances record. not unlike the frank perry gems we've posted here earlier, wolff & hennings concoct lovely meditative soundscapes from all manner of bells gongs chimes tibetan bowls, etc etc. one of the pieces is even composed and performed by HAMZA EL DIN!!!! there must be a grateful dead connection here, i think mickey hart mustve been involved somehow....anyhow, enjoy these tones and zones. volume 1 and 3 to follow!

"the whole of 'journey to the end' may be thought of as comprising either a single instant of time, or the timeless reach of an eternity."
"'the endless journey' consists of three major phases. each traces a stage in the crystalline evolution of SPIRIT, whose reisdual body is now shorn off, as it is released from the last vestiges of terrestrial attachment. with leaving the body, and ascending through astral plane, spirit, lightening, is progressively stripped of all lingering mortal encumberances. then at the last, in its transcendent aspect of pure, abstract vibration, spirit sets out on its final journey through the void, across the vast of the universe."

Swami Kriya Ramananda - Song of the Golden Lotus

SWAMI KRIYA RAMANANDA - SONG OF THE GOLDEN LOTUS
satsanga fellowship
1978

second installment for swami kriya ramananda, this album is not as good as 'hymn to a new age' but it continues in the flute zones of the larkin post below. some flute some cello some electronics. nice pleasant sounds for your chakras. enjoy! (if anyone knows of other albums by s.k.r., please do let me know!)

"song of the golden lotus is the most unique of the new age music yet to emerge from the west. through several years of meditation and study, ramananda has transformed the western musical system to relate to mantric sound energy potentials. thus instead of composing melodies and harmonies in the conventional sense, ramananda composes enrapturing structures of repolarizing sound energies, designed to help neutralize some of the stress and strain of modern living; and on a deep level to internalize, uplift and inspire. this album was created as an inspirational adjunct for those on the path. it is devotional music in essence and its energies are harmonious with any spiritually ascending system.

at the conclusion of the music, remain quiet for a few moments."

Larkin - O'cean

LARKIN - O'CEAN
wind sung sounds
1979

lovely flute musings from larkin. we get 2 side long pieces here.
side A 'Emergence' has halpern-esque flute noodlings over a wonderful bed of ocean / whale sounds + a sparse synth drone by michael stearns. "The image is a butterfly awakening from the cocoon, it sits while the fluid energy fills its being from the inside out. An awareness of new form and movement emerges."
side B 'Communitizing' is a purely solo flute exploration. "The image is a butterfly in flight."

"The motivation for this recording is the light source from which all my music emanates - to this source I am eternally grateful."

Edward Larry Gordon (Laraaji) - Celestial Vibration

EDWARD LARRY GORDON - CELESTIAL VIBRATION
LINK REMOVED - ALBUM WILL BE REISSUED ON YOGA RECORDS!!!!
swan records SWN 52824
1978

alright friends, we're back!
here is edward larry gordon's (aka LARAAJI!) debut LP before he was "discovered" by brian eno for the ambient series. this LP takes us on 2 side long zither excursions. laraaji uses some prepared zither sounds as well as more percussive sounds along with the trademark hammered zither dances and the harp like arpeggio zither bliss + a little added kalimba for good measure. all of this drenched in syrupy phasing and panning. really lovely spontaneous, intuitive pieces from a free soul.

you can still buy sealed copies of this LP directly from laraaji himself along with lots of his other music.

Michael Stearns - Morning Jewel

alright a little something to tide us all back into the peace waves.
a taster before we unleash the gates of bliss here....

a great record from 1979 on continuum montage. made on kevin braheny's serge synthesizer before michael bought it from him i guess. with extra vocals and hassell-esque world music samples...2 long beautiful pieces. and there are more great albums from stearns in the pipeline, among other things.

Scott Fitzgerald - Bamboo Waterfall (Wind Chimes & Bells)

SCOTT FITZGERALD - BAMBOO WATERFALL
nature recordings N12
1990

just got back from a trip to the northwest. driving through southern oregon we came across a sweet gems and crystals shop called 'crystal kaleidoscope' in tiny Selma, OR. of course we had to stop in. there were several boxes of old cassettes for $3 each so i grabbed this one. sounds of streams, water, rain mixed with chimes and bells of all kinds. there are some keyboard tinklings as well as some vaguely japanese / native american flute vibes...enjoy!

"Waterfalls, wind in the trees, gentle streams, soft ocean waves and music by Scott Fitzgerald provide the backdrop to over forty different kinds of wind chimes and wind bells for a gentle journey on the wings of the wind."

Mickey Hart - Music To Be Born By

LINK REFRESHED!

MICKEY HART - MUSIC TO BE BORN BY
Rykodisc
1989

beautiful pulsing trance jammer from the weirdest member of the grateful dead.
dont let the year throw you off on this one.....enjoy!

"A valuable tool for that most important of events, this album provides a soothing, rhythmic soundscape for the birthing environment and beyond.

Originally created for the birth of Mickey Hart's son Taro in 1983, this 70-minute soundscape was intended to transform the coldness of a hospital delivery room into a warm, rhythmic environment which would aid concentration and breathing and shut out external noise during the process of labor and birthing. Hart recorded Taro's heartbeat in utero, then overdubbed that organic rhythm with subtle bass harmonics, drums, and wooden shakuhachi flute in a simple musical pattern repeated with slight variations throughout the recording. Hart and his wife found it greatly calming during Taro's delivery, and friends began to request it for the deliveries of their own children. Consequently, Hart decided to release the recording on CD as well as cassette for the general public, as an idiosyncratic title in THE WORLD series."

Craig Kupka - CRYSTALS - New Music For Relaxation Vol. 2

CRAIG KUPKA - CRYSTALS NEW MUSIC FOR RELAXATION 2

folkways records FX 6196

1982

another banger from mr. kupka & friends. here is volume 2 for more relaxation. this time we get 2 side long tracks. side B is more of the tinkly fender rhodes & synth sonic incense. side A is a cumulus bed raga drone trombone choir. yeah thats right, trombone drone. a super deep keeper!

"described by one active participant in relaxation classes, CRYSTALS is: 'warm winds carry the listener on an inner journey rich with poems of streaming color. a counterpoint of windchimes, light and shadow on a lake and leaves gently floating to a forest floor."

"happiness, peace and love to all on your voyages of self-exploration"

Craig Kupka - CLOUDS - New Music For Relaxation Vol. 1

CRAIG KUPKA - CLOUDS NEW MUSIC FOR RELAXATION

folkways records FMX 6195

1981

in the early 80's, even the esteemed folkways records dipped their toes into the crystal clear new age waters....'CLOUDS' by craig kupka is #1 of 2 mellow static spaced out records he and his buddies made for the label. tinkly, light and noodly halpern-esque tones make up 2 side-long pieces for zoning out. vibes, celeste, electric piano, guitars, synths, percussion....here are some of craig's words:

"help discover you, your light-a lasting serenity and strength...at your own pace...in your own time, with CLOUDS. Inherent in the music is deep, peaceful relaxation. Relaxation is a duet of the body and mind in repose, a passive state wherein there is renewal of your life-light...."

you know the vibes, so enjoy!!!!

side 1 of STARBORN SUITE features the sustained voicings of a celestial string section and occasional "choir" (read: polyphonic string synthesizer), over and around which halpern's crystalline electric piano shimmers in ethereal splendor.

side 2 features an extraordinary recording made on location while halpern was visiting Findhorn, the world famous spiritual community in northern scotland. he is heard playing the grand piano in the findhorn meditation sanctuary.
